The owner holds a Diploma in Agriculture and is a former DPI officer. He has wide-ranging experience of farming in 5 countries. For the past nine years he has developed a sustainable farming strategy based on increasing soil organic matter ( carbon) levels to enhance water absorption and holding capacity and soil micro-organism activity. The emphasis has been on developing low-cost production methods and easy stock handling. This has been achieved by:

  • Breeding Belmont cattle for their hardiness, parasite resistance, fertility, docility.
  • Controlling grazing to allow pasture species to set seed and regenerate
  • Providing clean water for cattle to avoid water-borne diseases.
  • Constructing easy-use cattle yards for stress-free cattle handling.
  • Promoting biodiversity by planting trees and encouraging natural regeneration.
  • Controlling weeds.

Additional Information

The hard work of building 22 km of new fencing, installing a pump and 2.2 km of water pipe and associated tank and troughs, building a new shed, carrying out extensive renovations to the house and cattle yards, planting in excess of 3000 trees and establishing a magnificent garden has been done.
